Treating baby's colic naturally
There may not be a scientific explanation but even before science looked into the possible causes of this very stressful condition there were mothers who treated their infants with a great deal of success. Traditionally, i.e. non-medically speaking, colic has been associated with the development of the digestive tract. It is no coincidence that the pain the infant experiences eases at approximately 3 months of age. The same time the digestive system has had time to mature. From around the same age baby starts moving a lot more too, this too can help break up built up gases in the digestive tract. Colic is a condition which almost every newborn baby goes through as well as the new parents. It is something which many babies experience during their first 2-3months and the medical world has yet to find a solution for this common and often stressful illness. Colic is not classed as a medical syndrome, a digestive malfunction or an illness. It is actually defined as a simple cycle where the baby cries for more than four hours a day at least 4-5 times a week but more commonly everyday. Although colic is something which generally stops around the 6 month period, it does take a lot out of you and your baby. Of course there are very real conditions which are sometimes mistaken as colic. Some reflux conditions and disorders involving the stomach lining can be excruciating for those little bodies and the only way they have of telling us is by screaming. Please consult your doctor with any problems your baby encounters. Once baby has been cleared of any serious conditions and you still have problems with colic you might wish to try some of the remedies that have been successfully used by mothers over the ages. |
